Favourite Food Spots

I’ve created this map to share a few of my favourite food spots, a collection of local haunts and cafes and restaurants that I return to time and time again. It’s a work-in-progress so check back in the future for more recommendations. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Eateries

UK

  • Marmaduke’s – Sheffield, South Yorkshire – one of my all time favourite cafes and bakeries. It is my favourite place to get a flan vanille in the UK! There are two cafés in the city centre and a bakery-café slightly further out.
  • Napoli Centro – Sheffield, South Yorkshire (endorsed by the University of Sheffield Italian Society!)
  • Nam Song – Sheffield, South Yorkshire – delightful Vietnamese restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner options – I highly recommend the ginger tofu Phở!
  • Copper Pot – Sheffield, South Yorkshire
  • Grain & Hearth Sourdough Bakery & Cafe – Whitstable, Kent (run by the fab Adam Pagor)
  • Cafe des Amis – Canterbury, Kent – established in 1988, Cafe des Amis is loved by Canterbury locals and tourists alike. Note they serve Mexican food not French as the name suggests!
  • Posillipo – Canterbury, Kent – delicious rustic Italian food situated in a cosy grade II listed building.
  • Babka – Edinburgh, Scotland – cosy Jewish bakery serving good coffee as well as babka (if you hadn’t guessed from the name!), bagels, and cinnamon rolls.
  • Twelve Triangles – Portobello, Scotland – great little bakery to grab a coffee and a pastry to eat on the beach.
  • Artisan Roast – Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Uplands Roast – Edinburgh, Scotland – you deserve a little treat, you’ll find it here.
  • Mildred’s – Soho, London – wonderful vegan restaurant – recommend the desserts as well as booking in advance!
  • Padella – Borough Market, London
  • Warwick Street Kitchen – Leamington Spa, Warwickshire
  • Crumbs & Doilies – Soho, London – I will often arrange my trips to London around a visit to this insanely good bakery.
  • Aidan’s Kitchen – Newcastle, Northumberland
  • Mowgli’s Street Food – Sheffield, South Yorkshire
  • Nuovo – Northampton, Northamptonshire – Venetian-inspired ciccheti plates, the Italian version of tapas. Try to resist ordering the whole menu!
  • Jack’s Gelato – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
  • Stir – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire – this is their bakery branch but there is a cafe and bakery in Chesterton in Cambridge.

Europe

  • Les marchés gourmands (night markets) – Dordogne, France – wonderful evening food markets which take place across France during the summer. They are a culmination of live music, international food stands and community. Take your own crockery and glasses (picnic basics will do!) then grab a table and explore the food stands. I particularly enjoy the marché in Le Bugue.
  • Zenith – Porto, Portugal
  • Mercado do Bolhão – Porto, Portugal
  • Lugeck – Vienna, Austria – just around the corner from the beautiful St Stephan’s Cathedral, Lugeck is a lovely place to get some traditional Austrian dishes in a modern setting. I’d recommend the Kärntner Kasnudeln, a traditional Austrian cheese-filled dumpling!
  • Eis-Greissler – Vienna, Austria – an amazing spot for ice cream in Vienna! They regularly change up their menu so keep an eye out for new flavours and dare to try something new!
